Autumn colours, a cloud cover, flowers strewn on the sidewalk, and a nip in the air. Imagine yourself taking a mindful walk in the streets. That is the mood where this piece takes you to. This minimalist, layered, meditative piece is a 19th Century classic which first appeared in a popular Japanese Design Magazine - Shin Bijutsukai.
The Shin-Bijutsukai magazine emerged during a transformative period in Japanese art, particularly between the late 1800s and early 1900s. This era saw a blending of traditional Japanese aesthetics with influences from Western art movements, notably Art Nouveau.
The illustrations in Shin-Bijutsukai capture diverse elements of Japanese life and nature, featuring tranquil landscapes, floral patterns, and seasonal themes. The magazine's designs frequently emphasize Japan's bond with nature, incorporating geometric and floral motifs rich with cultural significance.
These vintage pieces have been restored and digitally enhanced for a highly intricate and detailed print quality.
